2007 Athlete Race Results:
Lightning Fast at Lancaster Ave Mile!
Haron
Lagat and Rose Kosgei both won the one-mile Lancaster Ave race and ran
PBs. Rose also broke the course record in a quick 4:25! Caroline placed
2nd in 4:35. It was Caroline's first ever race at this distance. Haron
won the men's race in 3:53 but was chased ever so closely by Richard
Kimeli, who also finished ahead of 6 other top milers in 3:56, also
breaking the 4:00 mile barrier!
Wow! Emily Chebet 9th Fastest Woman in 10,000m!
August 25, 2007 - At
the 2007 IAAF Track & Field World Championships in Osaka, Japan,
Emily Chebet finished 9th in a very elite 10,000m field. Everyone at
the AmeriKenyan Running Club is proud of our club mate for achieving
such great success so early in her running career!
Athletes Take Top Spots at CRIM 10-Mile
August 25, 2007 - Macdonald
Ondara placed 2nd shortly after returning to the US. Ondara was in the
front most of the race and was just edged-out at the finish. Nicholas
ran a solid race, though not 100%, to finish 3rd. On the women's side,
Angelina took 1st while Caroline and Rose took 3rd and 5th,
respcetively.
Mixed Results at America's Finest City Half Marathon
August 19, 2007 - In
hot and muggy San Diego, Josphat Ndeti closed from behind to finish 3rd
while Richard Kiemli repeated his 4th-place finish from 2006. In the
women's field Leah Kiprono took 6th and Lilian Chelimo 7th. Improving
on his time over last year, our Club Director, John Thornell, won his
age group and placed 2nd in the Master's. Generally, athletes had hoped
to do better but did take some valuable lessons form the race and look
forward to greater success in the next event.
1st in Men's and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in Women's at Boston Scientific Heart of Summer!
August 18, 2007 -
In the women's race Rose, Angelina and Caroline proved that working
together helps the entire team and they magnificently finished 1-2-3
while defeating Kathly Butler (a top athlete from UK) and Elva Dryer
(one of the top-ranked US ladies). What a feat! Haron Lagat also worked
extremely hard to capture the men's title and improve on his personal
best 10k time! Caroline also set a personal best 10k time while Rose
and Angelina won in 32:46. Congratulations!
Newest Member Wins News and Sentinel Half Marathon!
August 18, 2007 -
Sharon Cherop, our newest member, had a stellar race in her first event
with our club. Sharon arrived on Thursday and went on to win the News
and Sentinel Half Marathon in a blazing 72:26! That is the best time
for a half marathon run by one of our lady members. Sharon led the
entire race and was alone after the 8-mile mark, never looking back.
Nicholas Kamakya nursing a minor injury finished a respectable 5th.
Wow! Nicholas runs 4th, Angelina 7th in Famous Falmouth Road Race
August 12 , 2007
- Running against world-class talent including 2004 Olympic marathon
silver-medalist Meb Keflezighi and current No. 1 ranked 10,000m Micah
Kogo, Nicholas ran a very impressive 4th place. Angelina finished 7th
in a field that included multiple Falmouth winner, Boston Marathon
winner and Olympian Catherine Ndereba as well as Olympian Kate O'Neilll.
Beach to Beacon Bodes Well for Nicholas
August 4, 2007 - In
a very strong field with the top four places under 28 minutes and top
10 places within 40 seconds, Nicholas ran a strong 6th place.
Wow! Emily Chebet Makes Kenyan National Team!

- Winning the 10,000m event at the Kenyan Trials, Emily Chebet will
represent Kenya in the upcoming World Championships in Osaka, Japan in
August.
Backing-up Well for Bix 7 Mile Race

Kiprono followed up last weekends victory with a strong 8th place
finish in the highly competitve Bix 7 mile race in Davenport, Iowa.
1st and 2nd At Cypress 10k for Richard and Rose
July 28, 2007 - Richard
Kimeli continued his winning ways with a 1st place finish in the
Cypress 10k in California. Richard out-sprinted Fernando Cabada (US 25k
record holder and member of US marathon team going to World
Championships) to win the race! Rose Kosgei was 2nd in the race after
winning the Deseret Morning News 10k on Tuesday.

- Rose Kosgei and Richard Kimeli both won the Desert Morning News 10k.
Rose ran her personal best time of 32:42 and Richard ran a recent best
of 28:50.

- Leah ran a patient race and surged ahead at mile 5 to win the race in
31:42! Angelina Mutuku set a very fast early pace and held on for 3rd
place. Haron Lagat made it a dramatic finish as he found energy to
quickly pass an athlete within 30 feet of the finish line to also place
3rd.
Strong FInish in All-Africa Games
July 22, 2007
- Edward Muge finished 5th at the All-Africa Games in 10,000m. He ran
an impressive 28:04 to set a personal best! Edward was also the top
Kenyan finisher in the race.
Wow! Nicholas Kamakya Wins Boilermaker 15k

- In Utica, New York, Angelina was 9th and Caroline 16th on the rolling
hills of upstate New York. Nicholas fought off several tough
competitors to WIN the 2007 Boilermaker 15k in a time of 43:51!
Wow! Nicholas Places 3rd, Angelina 9th in Prestigious Peachtree!

- In Atlanta, Georgia Nicholas and Angelina ran in the world's largest
10k race, The Peachtree. Angelina ran her first race off of maternity
leave and ran 9th position matching her personal best time of 33:45.
Nicholas was the co-leader of the race through 5 miles and held on well
to finish 3rd in a time of 28:20 in a highly competetive field.
Strong Showing in Fifth Season 8k
July 4, 2007
- We had five members in Cedar Rapids, IA for the Fifth Season 8k. In
the womens race, Rose Kosgei ran 3rd and Caroline Cheptanui was 4th on
a hot, humid morning. On the men's side Haron Lagat was 4th and Richard
Kimeli was 7th. In the masters division, our club director John
Thornell was 3rd.
Rock & Roll Marathon
June 3, 2007 - Fred Mogaka battled a group of 24 Kenyan and
Ethiopian athletes to finish 5th in the Rock n Roll Marathon in San Diego, CA. He
completed the course in 2:14:00 while battling side pain for much of
the race. Our newest member, Lily Chelimo overcame many travel
adversities to run 10th in the ladies race.
Tough Competition at Freihofers 5k
June 2, 2007 -
Emily and Rose ran with some of the strongest ladies in the world on
Saturday which included 6 former Olympians in Albany, NY. It was the
Friehoffer's Run for Women 5k. Rose led the race early on but found the
pace was too fast to handle and finished 17th in the large group. Emily
ran patiently and closed from off the leaders to finish a solid 6th
position. This was commendable as she completed her spring events with
many top-notch performances.
Bolder-Boulder
May 27, 2007 - Emily battled high heat, high altitude and
an extremely strong field of professional ladies in the International
Team Challenge of the Bolder-Boulder race on Colorado. The Kenyan team finished in 3rd position as teammate
Edna Kiplagat ran a bold race to capture the overall victory. Emily was
9th and 3rd Kenyan member Viola Bor was 17th. The conditions and field
were very tough as the Ethiopian ladies won the event with USA running
2nd.
Two 2nd and Two 3rd Place Finishes in Ogden Classic 20k
May 26, 2007
- Caroline, Nicholas, Richard and John battled the hills in the Ogden
20k Classic in Wheeling, WV. Caroline again had a sprint to the finish
with Russian Tatiana Chulakh and this time Tatiana nipped her by less
than 1 second. Caroline had recently beat her by the same margin in an
8k in Dallas. Also earning 2nd was Macdonald Ondara. Richard placed
3rd, overall, while John battled the course and a cold to get 3rd in
the Masters division.

- Macdonald Ondara took a long journey to the Coban International Half
Marathon in Guatemala and ran a very strong 2nd place finish. Ondara
battled the notorious three h's: heat, hills and humidity and a strong
international field.
Girl Power in Bay to Breakers Success
May 20, 2007 -
Emily Chebet ran 2nd in the Bay to Breakers race in San Francisco.
Emily, along with the winner , were the first ladies to ever cross the
line before the winning man in this 96 year old race! They were given a
4:40 head start and then beat the winning man by about 10 seconds!
Caroline arrived directly from Kenya and finished 8th while Nicholas
was a solid 4th place and in the money.

- In Cleveland, Rebecca continued her build-up to the marathon next
month with a sprint finish to 2nd position in the Rite-Aid 10k. Leah
was 6th while Richard ran to a 5th place finish in a strong men's field.

- Emily Chebet ran a very tough 3rd place against some very tough
competition including world record holder (10 Mile) Teyba Erkesso, Edna
Kiplagat and Catherine Ndreba. Macdonald Ondara also ran well in 5th
position and Nicholas Kamakya 6th versus the toughest field we have
faced to date.
Lagat Wins Union-Tribune 8k!

- Haron Lagat was victorious in the Union-Tribune 8k in San Diego,
overcame side pains to beat out Joseph Matui for the victory. Haron
does run well in Southern California!
OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon Success!
May 5, 2007
- Rebecca Tallam was just edged at the finish, by 2 seconds in the
Mini-500 Half Marathon. Leah Kiprono finished 5th and Richard Kimeli
toughed out a 3rd place result.

Emily Chebet broke a course record - the second in two weeks - winning
the women's race at the Sabates Eye Centers Trolley Run 4-miler in a
time of 19:33! She also beat the American 4-Mile Record, though not an
American. Macdonald Ondara and Haron Lagat finished first and second in
the men's field, separated by just 4 seconds, finishing 17:56 and

Rebecca Tallam placed 2nd and ran a personal best 10k time of 34:04.
Leah Kiprono placed 5th with 36:20. In the men's field Richard Kimeli

April 7, 2007 - Nicholas Kamakya placed 2nd in the Crescent City Classic 10k in 28:17. Hours after returning to the US from racing XC in Kenya, Emily Chebet
also placed 2nd with a time of 34:14, just six seconds behind Teyba
Erkesso who a week earlier set the women’s World Record at the Credit
Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile!
April 1, 2007 - Placed 4th, overall, Nicholas Kamakya battled a very tough field right to the finish of the Cherry Blossom 10-miler.
April 1, 2007 - Rose Kosgei placed 5th and Haron 8th in the Cooper River Bridge Run.
March 31, 2007 - At the Ukrop Monument 10k, Fred Mogaka ran a 28:34 PB to earn 2nd in his first race since winning
the LA Marathon. Caroline Cheptanui also ran a personal best 33:06 and
placed 3rd in the race!
Mar 24, 2007 - In a very competitive field
Nicholas Kamakya was nipped in the final strides of the Azalea Trail Run 10k to finish 2nd in a
very quick 28:02! Haron Legat had a personal best (PB) of 29:05. Also
with PBs Rose Kosgei and Caroline Cheptanui finished 5th and 6th in
33:07!
Mar 18, 2007 - At the Yuengling Shamrock Sportsfest, Caroline
Cheptanui ran the half marathon event in 1:15:27 to place 2nd. Nicholas
Kamakya continued his winning streak winning the half in 1:03:07.
Mar 11, 2007- Winning and setting a course record, Nicholas Kamakya ran the 15km
Shamrock Run in Portland OR course in 44:28. Hannah Chepkoech ran a
strong race and finished 3rd.
Mar 4, 2007 -
Emily Chebet finished 6th in the Kenya Trials for World Cross Country
Championships. Was selected to run for the Kenya Team on March 24th in
Mombasa, Kenya.

Shortly after touching down in the US for the first time, new club
member Fred Mogaka won the 2007 Los Angeles Marathon in 2:17:14. Fred
also won Challenge of the sexes.

4, 2007 - Edward Muge ran the anchor-leg of The Greatest Race on Earth
- a four marathon series including Nairobi, Singapore, Mumbai and Hong
Kong Marathons. His individual time of 2:20:44 in Hong Kong moved his
Kenyan National Team past Zimbabwe to win the Nation's Cup!
Feb 18, 2007 -
Two athletes place 5th at the AT&T Austin Marathon. Rebecca Tallam
and Charles Kipligat ran the new and more challenging course in 2:47
and 2:21, respectively.
Feb 3, 2007 - Rose Kosgei has a winning time of 33:39 and Caroline Cheptanui placed 2nd in the All-America City 10k running a 34:19
Jan 28, 2007 -
Carolyn Cheptanui ran another impressive race, placing 2nd in a very
strong field ath the 3M Austin Half Marathon! The was also a personal
BEST for Carolyn(1:13:57). Keep up the good work. Also, Charles and
Abraham ran good races in preparation for upcoming marathons. Club
Director, John Thornell ran a personal best 1:14:54 in winning his age
division, great job John!
Jan 21, 2007- Richard Kimeli and Carolyn Cheptanui both ran to 2nd place finishes
in the Naples Daily News Half Marathon. Richard headed back to kenya
for 2 months after the race, God speed, Richard. Also, Emily Chebet won
her district Cross Country qualifier in Kenya in her quest to make the
Kenya team for the World Cross Country Championships.
Jan 7, 2007 - Rebecca Tallam ran a 78:08 to place 3rd in the OC Half Marathon.
